Kent Pétanque League Handicap success for Hartley

7 October 2007

A Hartley triple has walked off with the top prize at the Kent Pétanque League Handicap competition held at Lordswood on Sunday 7th October.

This competition was revived after several years by request of the members. The aim was to give those who feel they never have a chance to win tournaments a points advantage over those who play in the higher echelons of the League. Sadly the three or four hundred who play in the lower divisions largely shunned the event and only 10 teams turned up.

Surprisingly Division 1 teams The Rejects and Plough & Chequers 1 did not make the final. This was competed for by two Division 2 teams Hartley Shaw (Joyce Nash, Mick Nash & Colin Senneck) versus Lordswood Oak ( Mark Dennis, Roy Pemberton & Mick Weston). The Hartley Country Club team prevailed, winning 13-5 and taking the £60 first prize. Fay & Steve Golder and Larry Belcher won the plate.

A very disappointing turn out for this events especially as this competition was brought back by players' request.
