Colin Senneck narrowly misses KPA Singles title
30 June 2007
Colin Senneck just missed out on another Kent County Singles title when he lost in the final played at the George, Meopham on Friday, 29th June 2007.
The evening event attracted an entry of 24 competitors, including four from Hartley. Colin was joined by Irene and Colin Gibbs and by Jean-Louis Guiot.
The first round consisted of a series of mini-leagues of three players in each league, with two from each league going through to the main competition, and the unlucky last eight going through to the plate. Unfortunately for Hartley, Jean-Louis Guiot and Colin Gibbs were drawn in the same league. Competition was very close, with each player winning one game only, and Jean-Louis unfortunately just missing out. Irene Gibbs also failed to qualify for the main, so it was up to the two Colins to carry the Hartley flag.
A further misfortune occurred when the two Colins were drawn against each other in the round of the last sixteen. Colin Gibbs built up a lead of 7-4, but Colin Senneck retaliated, one point at a time, and ground out a win 9-7. In the next round, Colin got the better of Barry Wing in a very close match. In the semi-final he raced into a commanding position against local man Trevor Glenn by consistently playing the jack to only 6-7 metres. When Trevor got a chance he tried throwing a longer jack and picked up some late points as a result, but Colin eventually got home 11-6.
In the final Colin came up against Steve Golder. It was Steve’s consistent accurate pointing to a 7 metre jack that eventually secured his win 13-6.
