May Day Open Triples
06 May 2007
Although perfect for the organisers it was a slightly disappointing 16 teams that presented themselves at Hartley for the annual May Day Triples event to play for the almost £200 prize money.
Sadly only 3.66 were from outside Hartley, including Jerome Rousseau and his team from West Midlands, who arrived just in time having been delayed by M25 closures, and Pen y Coed. Faye and Steve Golder arrived in hope of finding a third and teamed up with Dennis Peareth from Hartley for the day
Eight teams made up each of the cup and plate competitions in the afternoon. The cup was won by John Fowers, Ron Yates and John Griffiths who beat Alan Rush, Peter Bryant and Diane Bryant 13-6 in the final
The losing semi finalists were Jean-Louis Guiot, playing with Joyce and Mick Nash who lost a long 2 hour game to the eventual winners, and Jim and Babs Carr playing with Jeni Rush. All four semi finalist teams were from Hartley.
The plate winners were Mark Dennis, Larry Belcher and Steve from Lordswood who defeated the Loose Ladies (Jean Olley, Val Rossall and Chris Cole) in the final.
