Regional 1 and 2 Hartley teams' updates

06 May 2007

Hartley had 13 members playing as the 2007 Kent Regional Qualifiers started at Lordswood on 22 April.  Fabulous weather ensured a high turnout and, as usual, the competition was excellent with the best players from Kent (and therefore most of the best players in the country) competing for the places as Kent representatives at this year's Inter-Regional competition.  The top 8 teams (plus a selected Junior Team) will represent Kent in Division One and the next four teams will represent Kent in the Challenge trophy.

The Hartley teams were:

bullet

MJL (John Bradley, Linda Bradley, Martyn Fribbens)

bullet

Hartley Shaw (Colin Senneck, Mick Nash, Joyce Nash)

bullet

Eagles (John Fowers, Mags Yates, Ron Yates, Eileen Fowers)

Also playing were Jean Louis Guiot (FCUK with Keith Atkinson and Steve Golder), Luke Fribbens (Team Yellow with Jenny Cooter and Scott Ashby) and Charles Fribbens (BTY with Alex Bruce, Rob Cooter and Phil Jarrett).

Twenty nine teams took part.  The format is a Barrage in the morning and a 4 round Swiss for the top 16 teams in the afternoon with points for places 1 to 16.  The losers from the Barrage play a knockout plate with the plate winners and runners up scoring points.  After the four qualifiers, the total points are added up for the overall rankings.

As well as going to the Inter-regionals, the top 12 teams represent Kent in the annual competition against Nord-Maritime in France and the top 6 teams will be offered subsidies for attending international competitions later in the year.

In the first qualifier Eagles and MJL failed to score, but Hartley Shaw got 13 points winning 2 games (0 points difference).  BTY got 12 points (2 wins, -8 points) and Team Yellow got 15 points (2 wins, +15 points).

The second event was at Plough and Chequers on a somewhat cooler 6th May with 28 teams taking part.  Again, the same 13 players from Hartley turned out with some different results from Qualifier 1.

Hartley Shaw made no points and are overall 14th and again Eagles drew a blank.  MJL managed 6 points (1 win, -26 points) and are currently 20th.  FCUK again failed to get a point but Team Yellow came 4th with 19 points (3 wins, +8 points) and are overall 4th whilst BTY came 11th (11 points) with 2 wins, -9 points and are overall 9th..

The next round is at Hartley on Sunday 3rd June so let's hope for some home advantage.
