Ladies Grand Prix 1
15 April 2007
Hartley
entered a team for the Ladies Grand Prix for the first time for many
years. The players were Joyce Nash, Irene Gibbs and Eileen
Fowers. The event took place in the Whittlesey
Bouledrome which displayed oven like properties on a day when temperatures
reached 25 degrees C outside.
Inexperience of
this competition cost the ladies dearly in the morning with them losing all 3
games in the Swiss system tournament to teams who would have had a far harder
ride in normal circumstances. However after the afternoon sessions the three
ended up with 3 wins out of 6 and a creditable 13th position in the rankings
for the 21 teams.
The second Grand
Prix takes place at the Rayne Swan near Braintree in Essex on Saturday 19th
May 2007.
A special mention
is deserved by Tracey Turner of the Plough and Chequers who with her
team-mates of Sarah and Myra Huntley won all six games and ended the day at
the top of the leader board.
The other Kent
players taking part were a team of Fay Golder (Tovil), Sheila King (George)
and Lyn Shrimpton (Old Sheaf) who lost the first two games of the day but then
beat Hartley in their 3rd game and went on to finish the day with four wins.
Current standing is around 9th position.
Also playing was
Jennifer Cooter (Plough and Chequers) who, with Kim Lachani and Lisa
Edmondson, completed the day with 2 wins.
